We are more alike in what we aren’t like

A number of you shared your results from the VIA Signature Strengths Questionnaire on www.AuthenticHappiness.com. Thank you.

What I found so amazing was how we were all so similar in what was at the bottom of the list, even more so than what was on top. In other words, high-achieving women may value different things in life. Yet we are similar in what is not so important.

The bottom values on the assessment are not what we think is bad. We just don’t pay that much attention to them. The most common values at the bottom of the list for the women who responded were:

Modesty and humility (Why? We know we are special.)

Caution, prudence and discretion (Why? We are risk takers and early adapters.)

Kindness and generosity (Why? We have learned not to sacrifice ourselves if it will hurt us in the long run.)

Teamwork (Sigh…We aren’t great team players, though we can be fabulous leaders.)

Is this true for you, too? Being honest about what is not important to us is just as important as knowing what we want.
