Create Your Terms of Engagement To Align...
Learn how you can create your "terms of engagement" to live your life in integrity with your mission.
What’s your cause?
Instead of writing goals this year, can you define your cause? Goals create actions which might have an effect. Causes create effects, making the goals that arise more fluid, adaptable and meaningful.
St. Thomas Aquinas wrote:
I have a cause.
We need those, don't we?
Otherwise the darkness and the cold gets in
and everything starts to
ache.
My soul has a purpose, it is
to love.
If I
do not fulfill
my heart's vocation,
I suffer.

How to make next year better
As work slows down for the holidays and you begin to reflect on what you want for yourself next year, are you thinking about setting goals to solve your problems?
I hope not.
Instead consider, “What do I want to create next year?” You are full of gifts, capacity, intelligence, skills and love—you have everything you need to declare a new and exciting promise for yourself.

The Book--The Compromise Trap: How to Thrive at Work Without Selling Your Soul
Why Read It? Compromises are part of our everyday work lives, but what happens when we start compromising personal values and beliefs?
Author Elizabeth Doty interviewed employees at all levels to learn more about the consequences people face when they enter into devil's bargains and find themselves trapped in situations they are unwilling to stay in but are
Can you tell your life story in ten word...
I heard a great story on NPR’s Talk of the Nation about the storytelling skill of Ernest Hemingway. When asked if he could write a story in six words, he came back to his challenger the next day with these lines, “For sale. Baby shoes. Never worn.”
Although the story you see when you reflect on his words may be different than the one I see, the images that come to
How big does your purpose have to be?
I have found that it is not the magnitude of your purpose that will calm your soul. It is the value you believe you are giving at any given moment and the recognition that what you offer is “enough.”
I had left a workshop early to make sure I got through the Friday afternoon security line at the Washington Reagan National airport in time to catch my flight home. I had
Are you driven by a need or a purpose?
(excerpt from upcoming book for high-achievers) Often the discontent you feel from your work stems from two factors: 1) expecting your job to fulfill your need for meaning, which it may do but you aren’t sure because 2) you confuse your need for recognition with your desire to feel fulfilled. You have to identify and set aside the first factor, your need for recognition, before you can define what gives
Is this a democracy?
On the way to the Houston airport, the taxi driver told me that he didn't know until a few years ago that Washington, DC was not in Washington State.
I would not have judged this man to be uneducated or even inarticulate. He was a well-dressed, white, 57-year-old American man born and raised in Houston. If the cornerstone of a democracy is that people are informed enough to make decisions, then
A Pearl in the Storm
I heard Tori Murden McClure interviewed on NPR about her experiences as the first woman to successfully row across the Atlantic. Amazing. She didn't talk about the technical fete; her stories reflect the internal battles we all fight as humans.
In particular, I loved when she talked about the time she capsized and spent what seemed like a lifetime upside down, in the darkness of the ocean, not knowing if she
Celebrate with me!
I just signed a contract with a major publisher to publish a book for high-achieving women based on my research and the Burden of Greatness.
I'll share pieces of the pages with you as I go along. I know I'll use some of these posts. Please comment whenever you feel the urge when share thoughts with you; I could use your insights.
Thank you for your support.
